Why Student Feedback Matters

Giving great feedback is one of the simplest ways to become a teacher that students and parents can't wait to book again.

Good feedback is much more than a summary of what happened in class. It's an opportunity to strengthen your relationship with your students, reassure parents that they're getting excellent value, and keep everyone focused on the learner's long-term progress.

Crystal Clear ESL makes feedback simple: use our built-in feedback forms!

Start by celebrating success. Genuine praise builds confidence, motivates students to keep trying, and creates positive associations with learning English. Even when a lesson has been challenging, there's always something worth recognising.

Next, briefly revisit the lesson. Highlighting new vocabulary, grammar points or skills reinforces learning and gives students a chance to revise what they've covered. Parents also gain a clear picture of what their child is learning each week, making them feel involved in the process.

Audio feedback or voice notes are a quick and easy way to leave student feedback and offer a valuable listening exercise!

Feedback is also the perfect place to set the next challenge. Recommend an extension activity, encourage extra speaking practice, or remind students to complete their homework before the next lesson. These small prompts keep learning going between classes and help students arrive better prepared next time.

Finally, use your feedback to scaffold the next lesson. Mention what you'll be working on next, or suggest an area that needs a little more practice. This creates continuity between lessons and helps students see their learning as a structured journey rather than a series of disconnected classes.

Whether you choose to leave written notes, record a quick audio message, or send a short personalised video, thoughtful feedback demonstrates your professionalism, builds trust, and reminds students and parents why they chose you in the first place.
